I Start Counseling…

Hey loves. I been busy trying to get my life back on track. Jobs around here are amazingly hard to find, and work on the internet isn’t paying enough. I start my life counceling on July 7th, and I must say that I am pretty damn nervous. Its really hard for me to open up to a complete stranger, especially in person!! I am just nervous that my counselor is going to say I’m crazy and unfixable =P

Any tips from fellow counseling attenders, on how to open up and relax?

  2. I’ve been to counseling a couple times in my life. Most of it was when I was about 5 years old when my parents divorced. My mom thought it would be a good idea to have my brother and I go to counseling. And then I went a couple times in college to deal with panic attacks I had.

    But listen girl! No counselor is going to tell you that you’re crazy! I’d LOVE to go to life counseling, I bet it would be really insightful! You’re going to learn a lot about yourself, and you’re going to grow stronger from it! This is a GOOD thing, so just think positive about it!!

  3. Usually the first visit is the hardest. He/she will basically ask you some questions and try to get to know you a little bit. It’ll go by kind of fast, and you’ll start to feel a little bit more comfortable. They will never tell you that you are crazy or “unfixable”. So don’t worry about that hun. It’s a good thing, I personally think everyone in this world could benefit from some counseling. you know?

  4. good luck with the counseling session.

    i had mine when i was in sixth grade. it went well i guess.

    for tips, just sit back and relax. and answer the questions as honestly as possible. i know there are some questions that are nerve wrecking but you have to in order to better yourself.

  5. Hon, I’ve had counselors since I was 9 years old. I just stopped seeing them just earlier this year or last year. But this was just to shoot shit, I wasn’t really going to need help, just someone to talk to.

    Relaxing was hard for me. The easiest thing is whether or not you can talk to them. Their attitude really helps as to whether or not you can talk to them.

    I’ve had some really bad nurses { I was in a treatment center twice for depression/cutting} but then I had some really good ones who you just know you can talk to.

    I don’t know how to relax. It would take me a bit to relax and actually open up. But just be honest as possible.

    Good luck with it and I am sure you are fixable, hell, they fixed me! :)

  6. I think you should just relax. Try not to cry, & don’t say too much. Counselors don’t need to know everything, because I secretly think they tell the whole world about you…

    I’ve never had counseling, but my advice is just to always remember your counselor is a professional and is trained not to judge you based on what you say or do.

    I think if you maintain the mindset that your counselor is only trying to help you and supports you, then you’re more likely to remain relaxed.

  8. Oh woah, good luck! I’ve never been to a counselor before, but I do also have the problem of opening up to strangers. It takes me awhile to open up to somebody.

    So wow, good luck… Oh, and I like Joyce’s advice, because it’s true.

  9. I`m happy that you`re working on getting life together. That`s always a positive thing. And please don`t worry about what the counselor will think. I`m sure that this person is extremely professional, and I`m sure you won`t tell him/her anything that they haven`t heard before.   11. I’ve never been to counseling officially besides that one time back in like 8th grade when they tried to say I had anqer problems lol. But I’m sure things will work out just fine! Good luck. =]

  12. I’ve never stepped into a counseling office before, but to me, I don’t think counselors are there to judge you, they are there to help you or guide you. But the only way for them to do their job is for you to be comfortable with them. I’m sure you’ll probably be paired with a person who’s patient and is willing to help, if they aren’t then they shouldn’t be counselors in the first place. =) good luck and just relax.

  14. to be honest when i took counseling i just hated my counselor. i thought it was so pointless, but really it’s about your comfort level. as time passed, i slowly trusted her. i mean no one ever trusts anyone 100% esp, when they first meet them. so good luck on that

  19. Counselling probably wont be anything like you expect. I thought I wouldn’t be able to tell a total stranger what’s wrong in my life, but it was actually easier than telling someone I do know well.

I don’t have any experiences I can tell you about with counseling because I never had it, but I still want to tell you to not be afraid and not doubt yourself because venting is a healthy thing, Whatever you feel is brining your life down, talk about it. I guess to get prepared before July, talk to someone very close to you, or to be even more prepared, someone you wouldn’t normally tell. This way you may not have to lose money if you pay for your sessions because if you go, and don’t get anything accomplished, you either have to keep going back and paying and/or blaming the counselor for not doing his job. That could put you more in a bind, so just prepare yourself. You could even write down a list of the things you wish to talk about.

    (as I myself need to see a phychiatrist as soon as possible).

    But from what I do know,
    just by going to seek out a consellor is the
    first step towards recovery, so good on you!
